Corrections -
The Weld Count Jail is a
secure adult detention facility for offenders awaiting adjudication or
serving court sentences. Colorado Statutes require the Sheriff to
receive and safely keep all adult prisoners lawfully committed and hold them
in a clean, wholesome, safe, and well maintained jail. Professional
jail support services such as medical care, food preparation, and facility
programming are provided to meet these mandates. In 2008 the Weld
County Jail opened a new wing known as “2 East”. This expansion means
the jail now has approximately 800 beds for more inmates to be housed
locally and not at other jails throughout the state. Jail staff
increased to safely manage the additional space. Throughout the year
there were no escapes and no suicides.
Alternative Programs -
Alternative Programs
consist of three different divisions: Pretrial Supervision (PTS), Home
Detention (EHM), and Work Release. Each division operates to offer an
alternative to secure incarceration. The offender is supervised while
participating in the community. Enrollment into any of these programs
is granted only by the courts.
