[Greeley, Colo.] – On May 14, 2024, the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) issued a press release about an in-custody death at the Weld County jail. Now that the next-of-kin has been notified, the CIRT team is able to share that Keith Schmedtje was the inmate that died at the hospital while in custody at the Weld County jail on May 14.
This is an active investigation, and no further information will be released until the conclusion of the investigation.
