Officer Involved Shooting

This press release is being distributed on behalf of the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team.

[Milliken, Colo.] – On June 3rd, 2024, at 0124hrs., the Milliken Police Department responded to report of a suspicious person in the area of the Milliken Elementary School. Before arriving on scene, the officer was able to speak with the male suspect by phone who made multiple threatening statements toward law enforcement. A Milliken Officer responded to the area and contacted the male suspect, later identified as Colin Brixius, who immediately began to run at the officer with a large knife. The officer gave commands for Mr. Brixius to stop and a taser was deployed. The verbal directives to stop and the taser were both ineffective, and when Mr. Brixius continued at the officer still armed with the knife the officer was forced to fire his duty weapon.

Mr. Brixius was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds and is expected to survive. Mr. Brixius will be transported to the Weld County Jail and will be facing several felony charges, to include felony menacing, attempted 1st degree assault, and attempted 1st degree murder.

The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will be handling this investigation. Det. Jackson Brunmeier with the Greeley Police Department is the lead investigator and can be reached at (970) 351-5352.

This is an active investigation, and more details will be released as they become available. All inquiries will be handled by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team. For further questions, please contact Lt. Kevin Halloran (WCSO) 970-400-2837 or Chief Investigator Mike Prill (Weld County District Attorney’s Office) 970-400-4722.
